buildingSMART International announces the launch of the new buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD)
The bSDD is a vendor-neutral entry point to enrich digital workflows for better reliability, fidelity and trust enabling data flexibility for the entire built asset industry.
This web-based service hosts classifications, standards, dictionaries and properties, allowed values, units, relations and translations and is available for a wide-range of users. The bSDD allows linking between all the content inside and outside the service. New opportunities like publishing the data as Linked Data, compliant to ISO 12006-3 and ISO 23386 are in-built functionalities designed to enable more industry standardization and dynamic content.
The new bSDD has some changes on the technical scope as well as improvements on the usability and accessibility of content. The new bSDD is part of the buildingSMART Technical Roadmap and was outlined as a fundamental service to support the entire industry.
The newest version is available here.
Léon van Berlo, Technical Director, buildingSMART International said “the new bSDD is created in close collaboration with the industry. It took a usability-first approach during development from both end-users and software developers.“
Frédéric Grand, Product Manager, bSDD added that the “bSDD aims to become a central place to provide crucial information that can be used in BIM processes from the definition of exchange requirements to the checking of models, to classify objects, to describe products.“
John Sullivan, Global AEC Business Development Manager, Autodesk said “Autodesk is honoured to support the buildingSMART Data Dictionary. The bSDD is a powerful way to ensure project standards are maintained. We started over five years ago working with the Austrian Standards Institute to develop a Revit connection to their data dictionary. We now connect both Revit and Civil 3D to the bSDD API.
Both horizontal and vertical project teams; and project components can access information in a standard way through our Revit and Civil 3D connectors to the bSDD. We understand the power of open workflows, and therefore, we support the work of buildingSMART International and the bSDD program.”
René de Groot, Director, Digibase, commented that “VolkerWessels works with thousands of IFC models to manage the construction process for hundreds of projects each year. bSDD helps us to streamline the structure and data consistency of these models without countless of hours of model checking and dozens of bespoke tools.”
